Ready Player Two

I really liked Ready Player One--in fact, it is still one of my favorite books. I was very much looking forward to the sequel and probably built it up too much in my mind.  To prepare for my return to the Oasis, I read the first book again and watched the movie.  For added measure, I also read Ernest Cline's second novel, Armada.  Bad move -- both books and movie are far superior to Ready Player Two.

Over all, Ready Player Two was just okay. The set up and premise were interesting and a good continuation of the first story, but the whole affair was rushed to a conclusion that fell flat. I would only recommend to people who really loved the first book--but unfortunately, I think those are the same people who would be disappointed with how this one turned out.

In other news, I just finished We Are Legion (We Are Bob), which I loved.  Kind of like The Martian.  I'm currently listening to Dreamcatcher by Stephen King, which is good so far. I'm reading Debt of Honor by Tom Clancy, as if the insanity of the current political climate here in the US is not enough drama.  I watch Soul  and still can't stop thinking about it, or the score from
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.  I think the only other work of art that has stayed with me like that in the last couple of months is Aug 9 - Fog, by Kathryn Scanlan -- really a beautiful piece of work.

I'm currently sending my most recent novel, Down a Deep, Dark Hole,  out to agents.  It's about a group of kids who battle malevolent nanotechnology and an insane astronaut from the future in a literary cross between Stranger Things and Interstellar.  So far reception has been good.

What are you all up to?  Any good books or movies lately?  What are you doing to keep your sanity these days?
